I got a call at 8am from a Race Director needing assistance with a Kids Triathlon Clinic about 45 min away. No problem, I am glad to help out but he wanted me there at 9:30 this morning! HELLO. I was still drinking coffee and just getting ready to think about my day.
I quickly gathered my equipment and headed out the door. On the way I finished my coffee and began wondering how I was going to get a bike ride in and all of the other million things on my list. Camps, athletes to World Championship qualifiers in a week, trying to sell a house to the most naive, ungrateful young kids (who have two kids) and who seemingly won't listen to their realtor, registration for Team Gecko, return emails etc... No doubt my mind is a busy place!
Anyway the clinic went really well. Nothing like a bunch of 7-10yr olds on bikes to get the mind going and bring a smile to my face. Luckily we only had one crash on a curb and another run into a mailbox because the curb crasher then ran into the second athlete. Yep, that is kids training for you!
Afterward I went for an incredible bike ride on river road in New Braunfels. This is a GREAT area to ride this time of year because it is still a bit cold for all the tubing enthusiasts and traffic is light. It was Gorgeous and I didn't even mind the 20+mph winds. Even though I don't have the time to train like I used to and miss being able to stream along with ease in the large groups of guys. It is times like these that make me grateful for just being able to ride and enjoy a beautiful spring morning. Sometimes the most awesome gifts come at the most unexpected times. Special thanks to this particular RD for completely changing my Saturday!
